Big Guy

The owner of this guy said he weighs about 22 pounds. He is a Maine Coon cat but his markings looked more like some sort of wild cat. I always wanted a Maine Coom because they are supposed to look like racoons. What I really want is a racoon which isn't going to happen.

Nice sketch! You captured his weight and that languid way cats let their paws hang when they're held.

We had three baby raccoons for a week when I was a teenager. Their mother had been killed. They followed us around the yard, ate from bottles we held for them. They were like ridiculous rolling squeak boxes with little black leather gloves. But they were already getting too assertive and quick with their teeth, and even at five pounds they were a little scary - like a crazy person whose actions can suddenly turn. That's what I think of when I think of "wild animal." Not predictable. Not socialized. Not a pet... We passed them to an agency that specialized in raising and renaturalizing such creatures.

But I'll never forget how much fun they were for a week... So I know what you mean about wanting a raccoon.

Great sketch! He looks so heavy in the owner's arms.

I hope you are able to get a Maine Coon cat someday since it appears that a raccoon is out of the question...

I echo Steve's experience with a coon for a pet. I had one as a kid, too, from a local farmer that had the semi-wild momma coon. As much as I loved have it, it didn't love being held captive. He was fun to watch. Their eating habits are a hoot. But we ended up releasing it before we screwed up his wildness.
