The closet beastie has a very small pocket size copy of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. It is 5 inches by 3 3/4 inches. He mostly hides it in his pocket but he occasionally asks me to read it to him. This book recently had its 40th birthday! Happy Birthday to the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Sunday
I took a workshop yesterday called Art As A Spiritual Practice. It was a lovely relaxing afternoon. It was very hard for me to turn off my mind but it was worth a try. It's hard to see the energy that was created in the pieces I did by the photos above. The bottom two are snippets from a bigger piece. The teacher was Dana Lynne Anderson. All in all, it was a lovely afternoon.

Theater Ticket stubs
These are stubs from two plays I adored. If you are in the Portland, Oregon area check out offerings from Broadway Rose. They never disappoint and their new theater is wonderful.

Closet Beastie's stash
I first introduced the beastie in this post. And this info from Charleen's web site:
"Closet Beastie Too, too young yet to stay put in his closet, Beastie pokes about nabbing the kids' trinkets as he goes. And like other curious young creatures, he explores his toes - and nose." He has an awful lot of junk in his belly pocket! More to come.

An animal surprise
Pup on size six slipper
My friend, Dale, in Arizona, lost her beloved dog Daisy a few weeks ago. She still has a pekinese named Jerry who is missing Daisy very much. So Dale decided to start looking for another dog. A rescue operation gave her the little guy above, who had just been rescued by the side of a road. Well, Jerry would not go near this little guy so he had to go back to the rescue people. Well , when he was taken to the vet, it turns out this little guy was a coyote baby, not a dog! So Jerry had it right all along. I hope the little guy was able to be placed back in the wild.

Little green alien wants his ray gun back
The little green alien paid us a visit to get his ray gun back but I think the closet beastie, see his picture on this post, managed to keep it. At least it was still in his tummy pocket when I was rummaging around for more things to draw. Stay tuned for more of beastie's collection.

Tribute to Obsessive Consumption
(click on for a better view)
There is a web site called Obsessive Consumption. Kate Bingaman-Burt draws everything she purchases. I found out about this from a newspaper column written by Anna Griffin (check it out). I have cut back on my spending in the last year, but got suckered in by an ad from Staples for bargains for $1. Of course I bought things I didn't need like two rolls of scotch tape (but they were only $1!). More envelopes, photo paper that was actually $9.99 and I have to wait for a rebate. A three hole punch that fits in a binder, which I really don't need, but was a beautiful magenta color. The post-it flags above that were actually $2 but, hey, again they were regularly $4.49. Then I had to have two more $1.00 plastic pencil cases that I do love but didn't need two more! Thank goodness I don't do this often. Even though I only spent $10, I realize that spending like this is how your money disappears. I loved doing this drawing. It was very soothing to draw the receipt. Check out Anna's column and Kate's web site, it's very fun.

The Button King
This drawing is of a stuffed toy (which is probably not the right word) called Alpaca Rat, the button king which is a signed piece by Charleen Kinser. I also own a closet beast and a closet beastie as shown in the photo above. Since I am having trouble with ideas of things to draw, the contents of their pouches are next on my list.
From Charleen's web site:
Closet Beastie TooToo young yet to stay put in his closet, Beastie pokes about nabbing the kids' trinkets as he goes. And like other curious young creatures, he explores his toes - and nose.
Closet Beast IIFlustered at your presence, he watches your every move into his darkness. Although impressed with the goings and comings of shoes, the intensely private Closet Beast II contents himself with a "great" tie, a few found treasures, and the stubs of theater tickets.
Alpaca Rat, The Button King"Al", The Button King, is a wiley collector and an even wilier barterer. He's got his eye on Closet Beastie's spectacular belly button. Beastie, beware of rats bearing gifts.

You say it's your birthday/no nude Friday
So Thursday was my birthday. I have a new job...well new since August.. and their birthday tradition is to have the birthday girl/boy wear a pink flamingo necklace. Well, this necklace is very cool. It flashes lights in three different modes. My drawing doesn't do it justice so I had my pack rat...the button king model it. More on him tomorrow... Oh I didn't feel well so I ditched my life drawing class..thus no nudes Friday.....

Artistic Meltdown
Well, I am hitting a wall. I have four and half months to go and I am ready to walk away from this project....but won't. I am not sure what I will be drawing. I just don't want to go back to the everyday matters list but I might have to. One of my favorite blogs is: http://www.kbladosdesign.com/blog/blog.html. I think for a few weeks I'll take a clue from Karen and just simplify. So for a few weeks the drawings will probably be more simple. I am also not feeling well but must plug on....

Tinkerbell and her bear
Tinkerbell is a four month old kitten who belongs to a fellow student in my life drawing class. It was a bit hard doing her justice as I was using a print from an iphone photo. This kitty is just too cute.

The people spoke, the Oregonian listened, the comics are staying the way they are
So there were a lot of people who felt as strongly as I did that the comics should just be left alone. On Friday the Oregonian admitted they were wrong and that nothing would change. Ahh, the power of the people. How amazing that the Oregonian would listen.

First Signs of Springing Forward
First signs of spring in my yard are the crocus which appear first. Hope you all remembered to set your clocks forward. I am still in pursuit of my lost hour. I am looking forward to more daylight as the year goes on.

Another drawing of the big guy
So this cat's mom handed him off to a young girl at the show. He was very patient about all this. I am sorry that I didn't put the camera down long enough to hold him.

Big Guy
The owner of this guy said he weighs about 22 pounds. He is a Maine Coon cat but his markings looked more like some sort of wild cat. I always wanted a Maine Coom because they are supposed to look like racoons. What I really want is a racoon which isn't going to happen.
