Tribute to Obsessive Consumption

(click on for a better view)

There is a web site called Obsessive Consumption. Kate Bingaman-Burt draws everything she purchases. I found out about this from a newspaper column written by Anna Griffin (check it out). I have cut back on my spending in the last year, but got suckered in by an ad from Staples for bargains for $1. Of course I bought things I didn't need like two rolls of scotch tape (but they were only $1!). More envelopes, photo paper that was actually $9.99 and I have to wait for a rebate. A three hole punch that fits in a binder, which I really don't need, but was a beautiful magenta color. The post-it flags above that were actually $2 but, hey, again they were regularly $4.49. Then I had to have two more $1.00 plastic pencil cases that I do love but didn't need two more! Thank goodness I don't do this often. Even though I only spent $10, I realize that spending like this is how your money disappears. I loved doing this drawing. It was very soothing to draw the receipt. Check out Anna's column and Kate's web site, it's very fun.

Don't beat yourself up over this: we've ALL done it, ha ha.
I liked your receipt. It reminds me of an artist friend who doodles all over her shopping lists: they are mini-works of art!

Nice drawing and thanks for the interesting links. I'm like you with office supplies - they are so hard to resist!

There are certain stores that I can go into for one thing and end up with a bunch of stuff I don't really need...like Target!

I've seen Kate's site before and it's a great idea. I love this drawing!
