Challenge #17 draw a muscial instrument

I always wanted to play a musical instrument but I have absolutely no musical talent. I can drum and I can rattle. This is a rattle I bought fairly recently. I couldn't get the end of it in but it is made from a stick that a beaver has chewed.

This is several drawings taped onto the page around the drawing done with the graphtint pencil (the blueish one in the middle). I was trying to use something besides pencil. I used ball point pen, pencil, graphtint, a unibal micro and a signa rt .038.

This is a drawing from an antique stereoscopic card I bought at a postcard, stamp and stationary show. It is a kind of creepy image because the little girl and her doll look like each other. I think I made them creepier than it really is.

Challenge #52 Draw a dog and journal about your dog relationships

I didn't journal about dogs directly onto the page of this challenge as my first dog story is too sad. I remember when I was about three or four when my dad brought home a dog. I have two memories of this occasion. I actually remember seeing the dog in the back of the car and, sadly, I remember the day I found him/her (don't remember which sex) dead on the basement floor. Since my attempt to draw from memory was less than successful and that this is a sad story I decided not to try to draw it. The next dog we had was when I was in high school and my mother brought home an Afghan hound which she named Barkus. The problem was that she worked and my sister and I were in school and Barkus proceeded to destroy everything in the room he was kept in, including eating out the back of the sofa. We found him a better home. I am not sure I am a dog person. I always wanted a cat but my mother believed that cats would sleep on your face while you were sleeping and kill you. I didn't get my first cat until I was about thirty. I haven't been without one since and I still very much in love with cats and still alive.

I like dogs, other people's dogs. Somewhat like other people's children. I am planning a series of "other people's dogs". I thought about getting a dog. I really wanted a King Charles Cavalier for awhile. I realize though that fantasy and reality are too different things and will continue to be dogless for now. Besides, Chloe says: NO DOGS! So what the cat says, goes. So this is the first in my series of "Other People's Dogs". I hope you enjoy the series.

This is how beautiful Venus is. I am not sure my drawings did her justice. Venus was my first pick for other people's dogs as she is truly one of my favorite dogs. I love seeing her. She is very, very special.

Challenge #119 Draw a rock

This is my version of obos (see below). This is with apologies to my rocks. They are beautiful rocks and I didn't do them justice. So something else to add to my list to improve on: cats and rocks.

I am finding drawing my cat very challenging. I have been using photos. It doesn't help that the photo is mediocre. I did this challenge first in pencil (upper photo) and then did went over it in pen.

I have decided to post a day later. Right now until I get a scanner that works (mine is broken) I am going to do my drawing at night, which works for me, and then photograph in daylight and upload the next morning. So today's drawing will be posted tomorrow morning.

challenge #11 Draw your glasses or sunglasses

This was a very interesting challenge for me because the glasses I chose to draw were ones I wore in the past. It brought up all my feelings about not being cool. I remember thinking, at the time, that the sunglasses were cool, but I don't think they are. The thread about my hair is another story. I need to get a haircut but have not been able to find a hairdresser I like since I moved here eleven years ago! So I haven't had a decent hair cut in eleven years. So that is it for today.

I am not very happy with the results today. I feel like I am in a drawing rut. I did a lot of this in pencil first then used colored pencils, fine line markers, and a bit of water color pencil. the bright yellow and bright orange backgrounds are water color brush pens from jet pens (jetpens.com).
