Sun Gazing at OMSI
A few weeks ago I went to the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit at OMSI. There was a local astronomy club out on the sidewalks with their telescopes set up for people to view the sun. The picture above is drawn from a photo I took.

Colored Pencil Workshop with Pat Averill
This is Pat's version of our example for class...this is what it is supposed to look like.
Please note that the drawing above and this image is copyrighted by Pat Averill.
This is how mine turned out. I didn't quite get it and since one of my shadows looked like a bat I played that up and went for a more illustrative, spooky look. Instead of the sun I turned it into the moon, so this could also be the everyday matters challenge of draw the moon.
Pat Averill with samples of her work and steps in the process of doing this piece.

If you ever have a chance to take a class with Pat, go for it! She is a very, kind and patient teacher!

A Lone Soda Cup on a Busy Highway
Okay. I have been obsessed with this kid who, until this past week, has been standing out on Highway 99 in Portland, Oregon, every day, dressed up as a Quizno's soda cup. I shot this picture from my car window. The light was red, so no, I didn't shoot is while driving though I have been tempted. I don't know why this intrigues me so much. Maybe I think it takes guts to dress up like a soda cup and hawk sandwich specials? Recently I also saw someone dressed up like a mattress and a woman dressed as the statue of liberty to promote a business called Liberty Taxes. I have another view of this coming up for tomorrow.

EDM #35 Draw a bicycle
So I was early for work yesterday and it was a beautiful day here in Oregon. So I whipped out my small moley, took a deep breath and drew this bicycle. I am pretty pleased even though this was HARD! Wish I had thought to take a picture of it so I could try again.

It All Adds Up....Part Two
I realized that my Starbucks habit not only was adding up money wise (click on picture for the calculations) but is also heavy on the calories. The scone is almost 500 calories! And I like a lot of milk and sugar in my coffee. So another goal is to stay out of Starbucks and spend the money on art supplies, a much healthier option.

It All Adds Up....Part One
So I have been drawing every day since the end of last July. I have given up TV and had some other accomplishments. What I can't figure out is why I am not keeping my word or goals for my diet. It all adds up refers to money which will make sense with tomorrow's post but it is not just money. Calories add up quickly. I have 3 1/2 more months for the drawing goal. I am adding weight loss to this goal. I will report what I accomplished at the end. I will also draw anything that is not part of my eating plan. So you might see something, you might not. Wish me luck!

Yarka Watercolor Set
A Yarka watercolor set that I hardly use. This is a watercolor set that is a darkish palatte. The yellows are not yellow enough for me.

Things around the art room that I am not using
I have a short three day series right now. I started this by looking around my art room for things that I am not using. I love these paints and their bright colors. I realized also that Creative Every Day's theme this month is color, so the next three days are all about that. I need to use these paints again.

TV Free Six and a Half Months
Well I have surprised myself by still not having TV, now going on six and a half months. When I draw, I still watch movies and sometimes some pretty bad ones. Another goal, at some point, will be to cut back on movies. But Netflix's three at a time plan is such a good deal!

A Squirrel Story
This is the last of the drawings of things from the goodie bag from the handmade nation premiere. This is from Bossa Nova Baby. Her blog is stitch and destroy, check it out.
My squirrel story is: I work on a community college campus. During spring break, I was walking to the office I work in and a lovely little squirrel came right up to me and begged for food like a dog! It was so cute. I was sorry I didn't have anything for him and mostly I was really sorry I didn't have my camera. Since then I have started taking my camera out with me.

The Easter Kitty wishes you a happy holiday
I've had this lovely fellow for at least 25 years. I remember getting him from the Moravian Bookshop in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is hand crafted. He has an easter basket with eggs and a chick but the handle is broken. Happy Easter to all....

Normally I would have posted Saturday's drawing today but due to the holiday subject matter I am posting the Easter kitty today. Saturday's drawing will be up tomorrow and Monday's drawing will be up on Tuesday as per my usual schedule of posting the next day.

What are you doing inside on such a nice day?
Faces in the crowd and the harpist
Feeble attempt at drawing the musicians and more faces in the crowd
Feeble attempt at drawing the musicians and more faces in the crowd
So it was a beautiful Sunday in Portland, Oregon. I spent the morning at OMSI, at the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit, with a friend Lenall from my art group. More on that later. Later that afternoon I went to a concert given by the Jewish Community Orchestra. It was a great concert: Debussy, Forodin, Ravel and Stravinsky. Still can't figure out how to improve these impromptu drawings. It was really a lovely day.

Movie Ticket
The drawing is of my ticket for the showing of Handmade Nation at the Musuem of Contemporary Craft. The envelope was really lime green. I chose the bright yellow background because yellow, bright schoolbus yellow is my favorite color. The theme for Creative Everyday is color. I went to this showing of the movie because they were giving away a bag of goodies shown in the photo. More on the goodies later in the week.

Waiting/View from my car
View from my car on Davis Street in Portland while waiting to go into the Contemporary Craft musuem for the Portland screening of Handmade Nation. I find it hard to draw street scenes. So something else to add to my list to improve on.
More on the evening in a few days.

Viewing life in 3D
These are my 3D glasses, that I saved from the first IMAX 3D viewing in Portland at the Regal Cinemas at Bridgeport Village. They have been appropriated by closet beast along with a couple of other pairs. I think the other 3D movies I saw were Monster House and I can't remember the other.
